"Roatan" resulted from an plein air work in the Caribbeans in late 2011. This seascape demonstrates my fascination with colour which characterises all my recent works I have used vivid hues and filled the artwork with a subtle light associated with the eminent weather change over the Bay. My lateral and thick brushstrokes are strong to accentuate the power of Nature. The sunshine and island's natural beauty clashes with the storm strenght and dramatism of the inevitable change. The viewer's contextual interpretation of the artwork should, however, be broader and consider the Nature and its metaphysics. Exhibited at 69 Smith Street Gallery, Fitzroy, Melbourne. The second place in the Expressionism category of the 2013 American Art Awards competition - assessed by 25 art galleries in the United States.
About Zofia Kijak
My fascination with color characterizes all my works. I use vivid hues and bold brush strokes to fill my artwork with light. My aim is for my artwork to radiate with happiness, bring to the viewer positive emotions and encourage optimistic view of the world. My passion for intense colors results from my inspiration by Monet and Hockney and places full of sunshine, colorful houses and fairy-tale lush vegetation. Most of my paintings are a result of plein air work in Australia, South Pacific, Carribean and Mediterranean. I have introduced my three distinctive styles: 'joie de vivre', 'substance' and 'floral abstract' which dominate in my recent artwork.
